Taunton Prep U12A – 20

Hazlegrove U12A – 0

Taunton entertained Hazlegrove in a thoroughly physical training match. Split into four 10 minute quarters it allowed numerous players to experience playing a variety of positions. Whilst it was at times chaotic and there were numerous mistakes by both teams, Taunton’s match sharpness showed through in the end.

Taunton took an early lead after a period of sustained pressure when Jack times a pass to perfection to allow Ollie to score in the corner. Brogan and Frey both scored opportunistic tries, picking up from the base of the ruck and ploughing over, both showing good strength and ensuring they held a lower body position. The last try of the game was scored by Ollie, who picked up from the ruck on the halfway line, stepped a player and raced away to score under the posts.

Line-speed was great for the first two quarters after that it diminished as the team fatigued, however, despite the occasional high tackle, it was generally to a consistently good level throughout.

Despite all the positives, once again we need to work harder at maintaining depth and spreading out in attack, to utilise all of the space. If as a team, we can carry the ball into contact in a lower body position and hit gaps rather than bodies, we will retain much more ball and score more often.
